Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

The presence which the Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist carries, this Divine Presence, is a presence that communicates and nourishes faith.  That is, this presence brings new life to the communicant’s relationship with Christ.  Those to whom we minister gain spiritual support and nourishment from the Eucharist, of course, but they also gain support on the level of faith from the presence of the Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.  The simple fact that you, the minister, are there as a source of support for the faith of the person to whom you give Communion.  Your commitment, your faithfulness, your willingness, to be there when you are needed, your desire to share yourself and your time with others, all this nourishes and supports the faith of those whom you serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist.

As an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, your mission is to be the hands of Christ as He reaches out to nourish the faith of those who give themselves to Him.  When you allow yourself to be Christ’s instrument you become a means by which Christ supports and encourages loving intimacy with Him - which is the foundation of what we mean by “faith.”  To share Holy Communion with others is to allow the risen Christ to touch the hearts of His people in the most intimate way possible.
