Parish Ministries

Serving Within the Community

Service First

Jesus established the Church, not to serve our individual needs and preferences, but that we might serve one another.  Our Mission Statement reminds us that to love God and our neighbor, we are called to serve one another.  Here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, there are many opportunities to respond to that love by serving in one of our parish ministries.

We invite you to browse the various parishes ministries (listed below) and match your gifts and talents to one of our parish ministries.  Then attend one of our monthly "MINISTRY AS SERVICE" sessions to better understand servant leadership within our parish.  If you have not already done so, we will ask you to complete your initial Safe Environment Training.  If have already completed the initial training, you may renew your certification online at .

Following the "MINISTRY AS SERVICE" session and Safe Environment training or renewal, you will receive the necessary formation and education for you to prepare and sucessfully serve in one parish ministry.

Administrative Ministries

Our Lady of Perpetual Help is blessed to have a beautiful campus.  Maintaining our campus requires not only paid employees but many volunteers who bring their gifts and talents to serve in various roles maintaining our campus.  It is a ministry that appeals to the "handy" men and women of the parish. Throughout the year, the parish and school offices prepare for large events that require more people, whether answering phones, preparing packets or stuffing envelopes.  "Many hands make light work."  Come and be a part of a ministry "behind the scenes" but vital in acheiving our parish mission.  A good opportunity to get you or others "out of the house" and spend some time talking while sharing in the work. Sundays are an occasion for visitors and potential parishioners to experience Our Lady of Perpetual Help. When people have questions about Our Lady of Perpetual Help, they may visit the OLPH Information Center located in the church vestibule.  This Center is staffed by members of our community who are knowledgeable and can assist with information and services that are normally available during office hours.

Catechetical Ministries

We grow as a community by learning more about our faith and our role as disciples of Jesus.  Our Lady of Perpetual Help offers catechesis from 6 months to our most senior members of the community.  There are multiple opportunities to serve in a catechetical ministry and there is bound to be one that will suit you.

Sunday Catechetical Programming consists of several opportunties for parents to focus their attention on the celebration of the Mass while their children participate in one of the following programs:

  • KidZone provides (6 months to 3 years) an experience of hearing scripture, singing songs, and listening to puppets tell Bible Stories similar to the Sunday readings at Mass.
  • The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children that is rooted in the bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori.  Children gather in an “atrium,” a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials they use to help them absorb the most essential proclamations of the Christian faith.  The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is a sensorial rich experience for children from the ages of 3 to 12 years that gives them the opportunity to grow in their love and knowledge of God.  Catechists and Aides for the Cathesis of the Good Shepherd receive quality formation in this specific methodology.

Jr. High Ministry gives 6th- 8th grade students opportunities to learn more about their Catholic beliefs with added support for parents in the Catholic formation of their youth.  Elevate fosters the growth of the human and spiritual needs of the youth in a fun and safe environment.  We practice the Catholic faith with action and by keeping God's commandments, celebrating the sacraments, developing a prayer life, and by loving God and our neighbors.

High School Youth Ministry for teens grades 9th-12th uses a dynamic instructional format that utilizes a range of instructional media for group catechesis.  Teens begin to own their Catholic beliefs by becoming full, conscious and active participants in the practices of the faith.  They are challenged to set out into the adult world as disciples of Christ by spreading the Good News of the Gospel, caring for those in physical and spiritual need, and defending the Church’s teachings and mission in order to bring peace and love to an ever changing modern world.

Hospitality Ministries

We have all experienced hospitality but we may not have thought about it very much.  Hospitality is foundational to the understanding of human life.  It is an integral component of all social gatherings, beginning when families gather around the table and share their lives as well as their meals.  Hospitality sets the stage for interaction, dialogue and intimacy.  It promotes a sense of unity and peace where both host and guest experience freedom.  An understanding of the biblical witness of John, Martha, Mary, the travelers to Emmaus, the widow of Zarephath and Abraham enriches the hospitality practiced at home.  When such an understanding of hospitality is translated into liturgical experience, then hospitality is not only facilitated but make makes sense.  The ministry of hospitality requires an authentic, genuine and caring response to the needs of everyone who gathers.  The responsibility of acheiving unity, wholeness and health in the OLPH community rests upon all those who extend welcome.  There are several Hospitality Ministries in which to serve:

Docents welcome visitors to the Old Adobe Mission and offer them personal attention through an informative guided tour.

Greeters are members of the OLPH community and extend a friendly handshake, a smile and a hearty "WELCOME" to visitors and fellow OLPH members before every Sunday Mass

Funeral Ministry assist the bereaved at the funeral liturgies, distrubuting worship aids and holy cards as well as providing any direction necessary throughout the liturgy.

Funeral Reception Ministry is comprised of volunteers who host and provide food for the many funerals held at our parish.

Parking Lot Ministry are courteous members of the community who assist drivers to find a parking space and lend a helping hand to anyone needing assistance and directions.

Welcome Committee Members are the hosts and presenters of the monthly OLPH "Come & See" New Parishioner Orientation.

Liturgical Ministries

The celebration of the Eucharist is the center of our parish.  From the Eucharist all aspects of parish life flow, from our catechetical ministry to mission outreach activity.  It takes many members of the OLPH community to actively participate as liturgical ministers to make the celebration of the Eucharist happen on a daily basis, especially our Sunday celebrations.  We invite you to consider serving in a liturgical ministry.  These ministries include:
